This free-form venture brings together three artists — the SYO of the title — Shimizu on sax, long-time friend Yamaki on drums, and first-time collaborator Ogimi on percussion, each riffing off the others in an enchanting and intoxicating blend of acoustic and electronics. Also the producer, Shimizu spent many hours on the post-production, trimming and tweaking this “musical bonsai” in the studio for months to create a quirky, subtle and harmonious mix. The results are refreshingly unrestrained, playfully pure Yasuaki Shimizu.

YS NOTES
  • Although we listen through amps and speakers, we also hear music inside our heads and hearts. Sound always changes depending on where we are and how we feel. That’s particularly true of this recording. It’s like a live performance, it changes every time you listen. What you hear coming out of your speakers is . . . “Living SYO!”
