Yasuaki Shimizu + Ray Kunimoto Live at Kiwa! Tickets On Sale 20 September

Recent years have seen Yasuaki Shimizu earning rave reviews among western listeners as well as those in his native Japan for his forays into the ambient and experimental music domains.

In particular, Shimizu’s solo album Kakashi, and the masterful Utakata no Hibi made with his experimental band Mariah, both released in the 1980s, have long attracted enthusiastic followings, and remain enormously influential for many fans of all ages. Their unique sound has also attracted the attention of DJs and seen them featured on many a playlist.

In 2018, joined by programming and MAX/MSP master Ray Kunimoto, Shimizu embarked on a hugely successful tour of six countries including Denmark, the UK, The Netherlands, and Germany, undertaking ten performances centered primarily on these 1980s albums and kicking off with Roskilde, Europe’s largest music festival. The energy boost gained from this tour was channeled into an exciting new round of creating that has seen Shimizu’s musical expression acquire even further depth and substance, and an enhanced grasp of subtle fluctuations and variations, opening the door to a whole new era of creative musicality.

Don’t miss this chance to experience first-hand the world of Yasuaki Shimizu as he continues to change and challenge both himself and our ideas around music.
